The Aces boys and girls teams will be part of a double-header District Playoffs matinee on Saturday at Spring-Ford High School. The 4th-seeded girls will take on #11 Downingtown West at 1 PM. The 6th-seeded boys will play #5 CB South at 2:30 PM. Both Lower Merion teams have qualified for the State Playoffs, which begin Saturday, March 7th.
The girls advanced to states with wins over Unionville, Council Rock South and Upper Darby, before dropping a 34-33 overtime heart-breaker to #1 Cheltenham in the District semifinals. The boys are coming off a tough overtime loss of their own -- a 51-46 decision to Plymouth Whitemarsh in the 3rd round consolation game. The Aces battled from behind to take a two-point advantage late in regulation, but the Colonials tied the game and pulled away in overtime. Harley Williamson had 17 to pace LM; Greg Robbins had 16 and Oliver Cohen chipped in with 10.
This is the fourth time in the past five seasons that both the Aces girls and boys have qualified for the State Playoffs, a combined string of success unmatched by any other high school in the District.
