The Aces rolled to their 20th win of the season Tuesday night with an 84-66 thumping of Spring-Ford in the District playoffs. Five Aces reached double-figures in the team’s biggest offensive output of the season.
LM trailed 23-19 at the end of a back and forth first quarter, but opened the second frame on a 10-2 run to seize control of the game. Corey Sherman ’15 drilled two threes during the run, and LM pushed the lead to nine at the end of the quarter on an acrobatic and-one layup from Adrian Levitt ’14.
The Aces extended the margin to double-digits early in the third quarter on layups from Justin McFadden ‘14 and Jule Brown ’15 and got threes from Nick Jones ’15 and Sherman (off a beautiful feed by Jones) to break things open. LM closed the quarter on a KJ Helton ’16 layup off a nifty feed in transition from Steve Pendleton ’15 to go up 65-50.
The Aces continued to shred the Rams’ defense in the fourth quarter and built a 78-57 lead at the 4:15 mark on a layup by JaQuan Johnson ’15. The Aces’ reserves, who played important minutes throughout the game on Tuesday, played most of the final frame.
McFadden led all scorers with 22 points and added ten rebounds. Sherman (14 points), Johnson (12 points), Pendleton (11 points) and Brown (10 points), Jones (7 points), Helton (4 points), Levitt (2 points) and Oliver Henry ’14 (2 points) rounded out the scoring.
LM handed the Rams – winners of the Pioneer Athletic Conference -- their biggest margin of defeat on the season and took down their third league champ this postseason. The Aces also secured their third consecutive 20-win season for only the fourth time in school history.
Now 5-1 this postseason (including league playoffs), the Aces conclude the District 1 tournament on Friday night at Abington. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 PM. The Ghosts defeated CB West in overtime Tuesday night.
