All smiles in the locker room after the Aces' season-opening win

The Aces used a 15-0 run to close the third quarter and rolled Bayard Rustin 74-42 on opening night of the 2017-18 season.

LM pounced early and often against Rustin, racing to an 18-7 first quarter advantage behind tenacious defense and relentless attacks of the rim. The Aces extended the margin to as many as 15 points in the second quarter before a late Rustin run cut the halftime lead to 12 at 40-28.

After the break, it was all Lower Merion. After a cold start from beyond the arc, the Aces drilled seven second half threes and blew the game open during their remarkable third-quarter blitz, capped by a 40-foot buzzer beater from Steve Payne '19 to close the period. Payne '19 led all scorers with a career-high 29 points; nine Aces entered the scoring column, with Zack Slogoff '18 and Garrett Ryan '19 earning their first varsity points.

On the night, the Aces forced 29 Rustin turnovers.

LM returns to action Saturday evening in an intriguing matchup against Chester in the Fred Pickett Play By Play Classic at Chester High School. Gametime is 8 PM.
