The Lower Merion Basketball program will welcome back alumni from all generations at the first-ever Lower Merion Basketball Reunion Weekend, to be held June 6-7. The event, which celebrates the 100+ year history of the program, is open to the public and features an Alumni Night reception, an Alumni Game and Hall of Fame dinner and awards ceremony. No team has won more state basketball titles (six) than Lower Merion; members of every title team except the 1933 squad will be on hand for the event. Alumni representing each decade since the ‘30’s are participating on the reunion planning committee and invitations have been mailed or emailed to nearly 500 former players who have worn the Maroon & White.
A Hall of Fame committee made up of alumni and friends from the program (1940’s to the present) is currently reviewing nominees for honors and awards to be presented at the Hall of Fame Dinner. A video documentary highlighting 100 years of Aces history and interviews with former players and coaches will be shown at the dinner.
The reunion is the final event in the Main Gym at Lower Merion High School. Opened in 1964, the court has seen its share of championship teams and outstanding players. The court will be demolished in June to make way for the construction of a new high school. The Downs Gym, the revered home court of LM’s first title teams will remain and has formally been designated an “historic landmark.”
Proceeds from the weekend will benefit the Lower Merion Basketball Program and Lower Merion Basketball Scholarship Fund. The fund has been established to help support the college dreams of future Aces in need of additional financial support. For more information and to register for the reunion, click here.
