STATES!!! The Aces clinched their tenth straight state playoff berth — the longest active 6A streak in the state — with a dominant 63-48 win over CB East on Tuesday in Bryant Gymnasium.
LM opened the game on a 12-2 run and never looked back, using relentless perimeter defense and timely three-point shooting to keep the Patriots off balance all night. The Aces built a 14 point lead by halftime and led by as many as 24 points in the fourth.
Nine players entered the scoring column, but it was the D — led by the ball-hawking James Simples ‘20 and Jaylen Shippen ‘22 — that set the tone, limiting a dangerous Patriots attack to single digit scoring in three quarters. Simples was everywhere, blocking shots, collecting five steals, and shutting down CB East’s top player. It was also a night of welcome returns from injury, with Sam Brown '23 and Zack Wong '21 making an impact after extended absences.
In a season that’s thrown this young Aces squad everything but the kitchen sink, the boys have battled and clawed for a moment like this — a moment that has them back where LM teams expect to be — the state playoffs. With the win, the Aces advance to play Chester in the District quarterfinals Friday at 7 at Chester.
